Digital is transforming the future of construction and asset management. Partnering with Urban Utilities and Mott MacDonald we developed a 3D augmented reality model of the recently completed sewer pump station in Grey Street, South Brisbane, as part of Brisbane City Council’s transformational Brisbane Metro.

As most of this significant structure is underground, the AR experience enables the impressive scale of the 17m deep underground features to be viewed in true size and location.

Whilst this AR model will not be available to the public, it’s a tool that can be used by Urban Utilities for planning, maintenance, and training. The industry is quickly adopting the use of a ‘digital twin’ for their assets which provides real-time data and uses simulation, machine learning and reasoning to help decision-making.

Augmented Reality has real potential to aid in operations and maintenance applications with the ability to tag the model with information such as age, maintenance requirements and condition as well as media/data such as photographs, documents, videos and more.
